In January 2007, while serving on a dental medical short term mission in Honduras, Dr. Eric Gunnoe, Dr. Joe Iriana and Pat Iriana made a decision to make it possible to improve the capacity of medical dental services at the mission they were serving.
In April 2007 HealthEquip became a non-profit corporation in the state of Maine.
On February 29, 2008 HealthEquip was granted tax-exempt status by the Internal Revenue Service and is classified as a 501( c ) ( 3 ) organization allowing donors to be eligible for all donations of equipment and finances.
A team of returned to Honduras in January 2008 to set up the donated dental equipment for one operatory with the remaining dental equipment to be set up and working by January 2009. A local Honduran was trained to teach dental hygiene in the schools and villages.
Our board of directors includes a physician, a dentist, a dental hygienist, a nurse, a dental assistant, an equipment specialist and administrative staff.
